sounds like something from the lion king.
I loved listening to this when I first played C4. Big fan of civilization after playing 3.
@KendrewAmir Just to clarify, that’s you on the right relative to the stage, correct? So for a viewer of the video, you would be on the left?
Love the piece and the solos, btw. You both have beautiful voices.
I still play Civ for the music. Awesome show.
@KendrewAmir holy crap, you really are that guy. this was awesome
@CaptHayfever There actually were no auditions for this, Ron (on the left) is the original singer for this poeice, me (on the right) was chosen after singing this solo with VGL when they cam here to Buffalo.
Hallelujah!!!
Cheers for the response, mate! I’m still amazed at your voices and how they compliment eachother.
Have you considered doing stuff like this more? I bet there is a lot of people who don’t find Opera to be their favourite genre who would enjoy a voice like that.
Anyway, thanks for clarifying and taking the time to respond. Best of luck with your career!
Wtf…
They did all this for a game?!?!?!….damn!…games are starting to loved by many people now!
Five years later and it hasn’t lost a beat…
Crossing my fingers that VGL on PBS will actually have Civ 5 music (scheduled for September release)…
When Video Games Live did a performance a couple years ago, my friend had the honor to do a solo performance of what the duet did in this video. He is a great singer and I have linked him to this video so he can enjoy it as well.
Thanks for posting this video and I can’t wait to see this on my local PBS station.
wonderful!
It’s one of the most awesome soundtracks ever.
It’s one of the few games in which I stop at the menu for like 5 minutes just to LISTEN to it
.
AWSOME!!! im so psyched for it to be on tv!!!
Fantastic! :] Much better than the OST version, IMO.
@Piotrek7654321 720p worked for me, give it a try again.
720p doesn’t work
Absolutely beautiful, I actually teared up a little bit from the nostalgia
I never knew that the song was the Lords prayer, I’ve wondered at the lyrics but have never been able to find them (with this added knowledge I have). Its quite fitting when you consider the introduction of religion as a core gameplay element in Civ 4.
@Frygah They’re probably local singers who auditioned for this show; VGL uses local musicians at every venue. Only the host, conductor, & solo pianist actually travel on the tours.
It seems Video Games Live and PBS have really pulled all the stops with this special! Triple the screens, more elaborate and dramatic lighting, studio quality setup, and of course awesome performances! I hope in my lifetime I’ll get to see one of their shows Live. Certainly on my bucket list!
Well this would be amazing for me if it wasnt the fourth time I experienced this particular skit. I think that is the one and only real problem I have had with VGL. Its literally the same thing every time I have gone to a concert. Maybe that is not so much of a bad thing, but with so much to choose from its a shame that they pigeonhole into only a bunch of big named franchises (Metal Gear.. which has terrible music imho, Halo, and a few others that dont belong on a grand stage).
Any Aussies who want VGL in Oz should look up “Australia Wants Video Games Live Too!” on Face Book. It’s so awesome Tommy T. himself joined it – he loves Oz from what he tells me, we just need some companies to PAY for VGL!
(And no, not spam, just sick of the 5+ years trying to get VGL here.)
@Rijndael90 This is a mix of two parts of the Civ4 soundtrack. The first 60 seconds or so is the opening theme followed by the soloists doing the “Babu Yet” song. It is definately two different songs from the soundtrack put into this track.
@Frygah They are definately not from the soundtrack. (I have it because of a VGL performance of this) Generally they just get local singers that are part of the symphonies they use to do their concerts. I have seen 3 shows in different areas, and the symphonies were significantly different each time as it was the local symphony orchestra.
